Build exceptional projects--and help scale a referral-driven design-build company.

This role is for a senior residential Project Manager who wants more than just "running jobs." We are intentionally hiring someone who combines strong project execution with client trust, design collaboration, and a growth mindset. If you've built long-term relationships with architects, designers, or high-end clients--and you want to be rewarded for the business you help create--this role was designed for you.

If your goal is simply to manage schedules and babysit subs, this will not be a fit. If you want ownership, upside, and influence in how a company grows, keep reading.

About Us

Cowdin Design + Build is a small, highly focused residential design-build firm delivering 10 to 13 major remodels, and an occasional new-build, annually across Metro Detroit's west side. Our primary work includes whole-home renovations, kitchens, primary suites, and home additions.

Our next phase of growth is intentional and referral-driven. We are moving away from low-margin lead sources and building deeper partnerships with architects, designers, and past clients. This Project Manager role is central to that strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Lead high-end residential remodeling projects from preconstruction through closeout with full accountability for scope, schedule, budget, and quality
  • Act as the primary client point of contact, setting expectations and delivering a calm, professional experience throughout construction
  • Collaborate closely with architects and designers to maintain design intent while solving real-world construction challenges
  • Develop and manage detailed schedules, budgets, and job cost tracking in Buildertrend
  • Identify risks early by reviewing drawings, selections, and scopes before work begins
  • Manage change orders, pricing, approvals, and documentation with clarity and discipline
  • Conduct regular jobsite meetings and walkthroughs to ensure safety, cleanliness, and craftsmanship standards
  • Maintain accurate daily logs, photos, and communication records in Buildertrend
  • Actively nurture relationships with architects, designers, and referral partners
  • Participate in client appreciation efforts, open houses, and referral-based marketing initiatives
  • Earn commission on new work you personally bring into the company

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of project management experience in high-end residential remodeling or custom home construction
  • Strong client-facing skills with the ability to build trust and long-term relationships
  • Experience working directly with architects and designers
  • Solid understanding of construction sequencing, budgeting, job costing, and schedule control
  • Comfortable operating with autonomy, accountability, and performance expectations
  • Proficiency with Buildertrend or similar construction management software
  • Existing referral relationships or a personal network strongly preferred
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to visit active jobsites and work in varying conditions
